Join The West Midlands Learning Revolution
The Learning Revolutionaries project is up and running across the West Midlands! In Stoke on Trent, learners on courses to improve their health and fitness have set up their own walking group. The Learning Revolutionary facilitating the learning circle has successfully completed her training as a walk leader and the group now enjoy regular walks through the city, along the canals, keeping fit and learning about the history and points of interest in their home town.
In Rugeley, two Craft learning circles meets at a member’s house on a weekly basis to learn lace, card making and jewellery from each other . The Lunch Club plan trips to local villages and towns to visit places of interest e.g. historic houses, castles, museums etc, then discuss what they’ve seen and learnt over lunch. The Digital Camera group, a camera club for novices, takes photos on themes agreed beforehand, and then show them to one another for comments and tips.
Two other learning circles are due to start soon. The Gardening Learning circle, “ Ground force” , is due to start in February. They plan to visit each others’ gardens, learn from one another e.g. how to take cuttings, rotating plants, tips on specific plants etc – and help out with some of the heavy work, if needed. The Art learning Circle is also due to start in the new year, with day trips to visit exhibitions and art galleries in Birmingham and Walsall.
The Telford Active Retirement learning circle has been very active, with a range of different learning activities this term, such as painting, a book club and creative writing, whilst the West Bromwich ICT learning circle offer each other tips and support to improve confidence and skills in using a computer.
And this is just the start! Watch this space for more learning circles in the West Midlands!
