Yorkshire & Humber Region
The Yorkshire and Humber region runs courses in thousands of locations from city hospitals and schools to local churches and community centres. Our partners include organisations such as Unison, Age Concern, Universities, Primary care trust, NHS, MIND and local voluntary service organisations to name but a few. We have an existing network of tireless volunteers dedicated tutors and committed staff who work together to provide learning for life for all.
I have been a tutor organiser for the WEA for several years and in post from 01 10 2009 as volunteer coordinator.
The learning revolutionaries project means a great deal to our region as we have been working on a project called ‘Revitalising Volunteering’ for the last two years, this has involved volunteers and staff working together to improve and expand the opportunities for volunteers within the WEA.
The target communities we are looking to be working with as part of the learning revolutionaries project are people suffering and recovering from mental health problems and the digitally excluded.
Tutors, students, existing volunteers and other staff are already coming forward to get involved in the project with great ideas and contacts with several of our existing partners who are very interested.
I will be running the training in both Yorkshire South and Yorkshire North in early January.
The project has been received with great enthusiasm by other organisations in the region and work involving learning circles and volunteers has been seen as a major opportunity to develop a new and shared vision of expanded educational and occupational opportunity for all.
