Join The North East's Learning Revolution

Every day, all around the world people come together in communities to chat and share knowledge in some form or another.

The Learning Revolutionaries Project offers an exciting range of informal, free to all, adult learning groups, known as Learning Circles across the North East region. These circles provide a unique opportunity for people to meet in local communities and learn new skills from each other.

This informal way of sharing ensures that people have access to information that is of interest and use to them, and provides a space for building community friendships.

The project is controlled by communities by encouraging local people to share their love of a subject through informal learning and provides the opportunity to develop bonds with others within their geographical area.

Learning circles provide opportunities to discover new areas of interest, to further explore existing ones or to rejuvenate those long-forgotten interests that we didn’t have time to develop in years gone by.

Everyone has something to teach and everyone has something to learn; Learning Circles bring together people who can build and share their skills while having support to set up self organised, informal groups.

The Revolution has already started in the South of Gateshead where ‘Dry Run’ a drug and alcohol awareness circle has been formed. Dry Run offers the opportunity to discuss drug and alcohol issues within the region and looks at personal outcome actions for positive change. The circle meets weekly at Springwell Learning Centre, Springwell Estate; and is attended and run by local people who have a keen interest in learning from other, like-minded people.

South Tyneside is host to an ‘Assertive Ladies’ Circle who promote self esteem and build confidence by meeting once a month at a free local venue. The laughter flows and the energy is infectious as the group grows in numbers.

Other circles include:

Egyptology Circle: a chance to learn and share thoughts on Egyptian mythology

Community Allotment Circle: discussing the best way to use horticultural knowledge in a community setting.

Bodge-It Corner Circle: discussing low cost measures to mend motorbikes on a budget.
